How Online Lessons Work
Once you sign up for your lesson time slot, you will receive a zoom link that will connect you to your lesson every week. Log in at your scheduled time, at your piano or keyboard, try to angle the camera so I can see your hands (we can figure this out at your first lesson).
From there, it’s pretty much like in person lessons with generally three segments.
The first part of the lesson is playing the songs you practiced the previous week. We will go over any corrections or questions and move into preparation for the next week’s practice assignment.
The second part is learning any new symbols, skills, or concepts you need for the new assignment. You will begin working on the new song(s), which can include hearing it played, discussing what the sheet music says to do, trying to play the piece, and discussing practice strategies to use.
If time allows, the third part is another activity which can be practicing a skill, reviewing theory concepts, or playing game. Normally you get options here.
During the week, you practice, come to your lesson the next week…lather, rinse, repeat.
What Music Will I Learn?
You will start with the Piano Adventures Lesson Books. These will aid in step by step skill building with a variety of songs and options for which specific books based on your age and skill level. Once you complete method books, things shift a bit, and I give you classical pieces at your level, and you get more opportunity to bring songs that you want to learn.
You will also learn to read music, play from lead sheets, and understand practical music theory.
What If I Miss a Lesson?
Life happens. When life happens, let me know. Lessons can be rescheduled or canceled without penalty with 24 hours notice. Less than 24 hours notice will be decided on a case by case basis (with most cases being charged for the missed lesson).
Fill out the form below to get started. Please include if you are looking for private online lessons, age(s) of student(s). You’ll get a personal email back to schedule a first lesson. You can also request the Exploring at the Keys course using the same form.
